First, sorry for my bad english. I used to come in Great Hollands in the 70's, in a family living in Waverley road. Their last name was Gale (or Galle) and may be their home was located at the 21, I'm not sure. Their son, Mark, was a very good friend of mine. Does anyone could give me informations about them 35 years later ?
Thank you for your help

Interesting article here:

http://www.getbracknell.co.uk/news/s/2054502_great_hollands_parade_rebuild_is_a_waste_of_45000

Shopkeepers say £45,000 of council tax payers’ money has been wasted on a firm of consultants who produced ‘pie in the sky’ ideas.

Retailers in Great Hollands shopping centre in Bracknell say the money could have been spent on giving the council-owned centre a facelift.

They also claim the ideas produced by a firm of consultants drafted in from Manchester were so large-scale they were never going to be viable.

The shopkeepers spoke out after it was rumoured the plans – which first emerged in December – look likely to be shelved.

But Bracknell Forest Council planning bosses say they are still considering the proposals which were based on results of a public consultation.

Trader Mark Page, of R&M Windows and Conservatories, said: “It was a waste of time.

“When we saw the plans, I was amazed.

“They wanted to build flats above the shops, and more flats around too, and the disruption would have been a nightmare.

“They could have spent the money on street lighting or a lick of paint.

“The centre doesn’t need rebuilding, everybody is happy with it, and the shops are vibrant.”

Jill Higgins, from Great Hollands Cleaning Centre, added: “We are always busy, and the centre is always busy. There was no need to do anything.”

Cllr Anne Shillcock, who represents Great Hollands North, said: “I think it was a waste of money, and unlikely, given the difficulty of getting hold of any extra money, that there would be any redevelopment in the near future.

“It was a pretty unwise decision.”

She added she was not sure consultants, Urbed, had a clear enough brief.

She said: “It looked very pie in the sky and given the current economic situation, it did not look realistic.

“I’m ashamed to say they got the £45,000. It is an enormous amount of money if we get nothing out of it.”

A final report has been drafted for the council to consider the future of the centre, incorporating responses to the consultations the council ran in December 2008 and February 2009.

Bev Hindle, chief officer for planning and transport, said: “The consultants’ report recommends options for the council and its partners to consider and the financial implications of each option.

“The report has been based on the views of residents and organisations who participated in the public consultation.

“The council is considering the report before publishing it with any actions on a way forward.

“Residents and community groups can be assured we will inform them of the outcomes of the consultation and the next stages in preparing a deliverable scheme once an approach has been agreed.

“We expect this will happen in the very near future.”

I had an emergency appointment at the Medical Practice this morning for 11am. When I turned up they told me I would be waiting well over an hour!!!!

Everytime, and I mean everytime, I have a Doctor's appointment at the practice I wait for at least 40 minutes. I am 35 but I have seen old people who can barely walk or breathe sitting on hard chairs who have been waiting for nearly an hour.

Once I asked the receptionist to check the Doctor was still alive as I had been waiting so long.

How can a GP surgery have such delays so consistently? Something is very wrong with the infrastructure at that surgery.

My next door neighbour has accepted it as the way things are and is always waiting for nearly an hour. Has anyone else had this problem? Definitely something to take up with the Local Health Authority.

Hi Maria,

We are also in Wooden Hill - about 10 years now (Our youngest girl, also goes to the Wooden Hill School)- so far so good. Have you guys been to see a Moto GP race live before? I would love to go to the Valencia meeting one day. Although I am more of a F1 nut myself, but I am a big fan of the "Doctor" when it comes to Moto GP.

What was the last concept you attended? Rugby Union - who do you support?

Hi J,

Cycling - well, I am trying ever so hard to motivate myself into biking it to work - Great hollands to the western industrial estate. I manage to do this, at least once/twice a week and yep, I do feel better for it. If and when you get your new/old bike - we could do a few evenings a week together - lots of cycle routes in Bracknell.

Scuba diving - ummm never tried it before and I think the fishes might not like my ugly face anyway - but I am willing to meet them half way.

PC's and technology - I am all tech-ed out - its a hobby ;)

Jason Bramwell here,
Myself and my girlfriend moved to Great Hollands (Vandyke) almost two years ago from the Kingston/Surbiton area. We like the area and the few people we know are very neighbourly and friendly. Would be interested in meeting other people to aid the sense on community.

Feeling a bit vulnerable at the minute as our garage has recently been broken into and a bicycle has been stolen but alas, these things happen.

Andrew and his wife serving time in jail for their greedy claims does sound a bit extreme. The prisons are already full to bursting point, by putting them in jail could mean a murderer or rapist could be let out early. Now THAT would be bad...

I reckon they should pay the money back to the government, after all it is taxpayer's money, and not all taxpayer's will want the money to go to charity i.e. the money could be used elsewhere, like a school or hospital.

I just hope that MP's don't make greedy claims under this new private company that'll be handling expenses.

The government is not really having a spring clean - they are just recycling old rubbish. They are also trying to hand over expense management to a private company to bypass the freedom of information act for the future.

Andrew and his wife claimed for second homes - for this crime alone, both of them should serve at least 1 year in jail and donate the total amount claimed to a charity in Bracknell.

Hi all

I have only just moved to Great Hollands from the oxford rd in Reading. It's alot better for the children and a millon miles away from the hustle and bustle of Reading. First Impressions of the area was very good despite the bad press and reputation. I have lived in the north in some very poor, rough and run down areas and Great hollands doesn't seem like one of them.

It seems like there are a few people in Great Hollands that will stop at nothing to ruin the lives of everyone living here, it's not the estate, but a minority (of prats and plonkers).

We have spent a fortune on the house we are renting as it was a mess when we first moved in. I am out of work at the moment because the construction industry is on its knees, so I am finding it hard to make ends meet and support my family. All I need right now is for some idiot to break off the locks on my house and steal my possessions, which incidently is what happened. My tools were taken on the 29/06/09 from welbeck around 1.30-2.00am. If anybody out there knows anything about this or have been offered some tools then pls contact the police.

If the people that took my tools had any heart then they would hand them back to me because they certainly haven't got the brains nor the skills to use them. All these people are capable of doing is ruining their lives and the lives of others. I'm not going to forgive them for the time being, but I will prey to god that I don't catch them snopping around my property again. If who ever stole my gear is reading this, then don't test me again because I'm not afraid of you and if I ever catch you I will make you pay!!!

There is a police officer that I know in the area and other police are working hard to catch these numpties. If there is anyone out there who has any information regarding a neighbourhood watch scheme in the area then pls contact me as I am interested in joining and contributing to society.

I'd like to see the pub turned into one of those family pub restaurants with a children's play area. It needs to be something so much more family orientated than just serving a very select few in the community.

It's such a shame, he's always worked so hard for Bracknell. I'm quite sad to see him go. It felt like we were in a safe pair of hands. Why are people so greedy?, i'm glad the government is having a major spring clean, it's still very unsettling.

Hi Michael,

Charges would be negotiable based on the services you require. I.e. 1 picture, low start price would mean the listing fees from eBay would be less so we could negotiate a lower fee. However 30% may seem high but with final valuation fees, listing fees, picture hosting fees and paypal fees our margin is quite small. We aim to sell products in the best way possible - by creating superlative ads, with colour, detail, description, pictures, reviews and relevant links.

We generally do not accept items that we believe will have a final sale price of less than £34.

We aim to provide the best possible price for your item(s) above and beyond what you may probably be able to sell them for using conventional means. Combined with a hassle free solution for de-cluttering means you will still make a chunk of money.

I agree, the local pub could be so so much more, we all love a little glass of wine now and then.

would love to have a walk to our local, but NAH!! it's just not that tempting is it?

what have the children got to do? they are hanging outside the shops and it makes me sad for them, they can come across as quite scary but we all know they are just bored. do they have a club house/ youth group?

Hi,

Charges are 30%. Please see the FAQ page on our website for an example. This may seem high but that includes all eBay fees, paypal fees and picture hosting which vary depending on the item, the final sale price and method of payment.

We also handle all questions from buyers. Write detailed ads, including any relevant associated links (e.g. useful website product reviews, owners club forums, user manuals etc) and several pictures and even videos if we believe it will help the item achieve a higher price. Thus ensuring the item receives the best possible price.

Thanks for your interest.
